Three friends from California were involved in a devastating accident that left one, Matthew Mitiku, dead, and the other two seriously injured.

Mitiku, 23, and Johannes John Sorensen 22, and Joel Tesfai, also 22, were the three involved in the crash.

The crash left the former deceased and the latter two in the hospital in critical conditions.

Friends of the trio started a GoFundMe to raise cash for the surgeries, medical treatment and long-term rehabilitation the surviving duo would need and funeral expenses for the deceased.

According to the fundraiser, Joel is a UC Berkeley graduate and played soccer. He was described as funny, selfless and genuine.

John was described a Master’s student at the Golden Gate University and a San Jose State University graduate.

The deceased, Matthew Mitiku, was a University of California, Riverside graduate. He also played soccer. Mitiku was described as a ray of light in the lives of all who knew him.

The fundraiser has notched an impressive haul of $65,792 out of its $600,000 stated goal at the time of publication.
