The Nigerian music industry is in mourning as it bids farewell to one of its most iconic figures, Onyeka Onwenu, affectionately known as the “Elegant Stallion.”
The legendary singer was laid to rest today after a heartfelt funeral service at the Fountain of Life Church, Ilupeju, Lagos News360 Nigeria reports.
Onyeka Onwenu passed away on July 30 at the age of 72 at Reddington Hospital, Ikeja. Her powerful voice, captivating stage presence, and socially conscious lyrics left a lasting legacy in Nigerian music, touching the lives of countless fans across generations.
The funeral service was a solemn and emotional event, attended by her family, friends, and numerous colleagues from the entertainment industry. After the service, mourners gathered at Ebony Vaults in Ikoyi to pay their final respects before she was laid to rest.
Tributes have poured in from all corners, celebrating Onwenu’s immense contributions to Nigerian music and her steadfast dedication to social justice. She is survived by her two sons, who, along with her legacy, carry forward her memory.
