Chidimma Vanessa Onwe Adetshina, a Miss SA top 11 contestant has been subjected to xenophobic and Afrophobic attacks on social media.

Some members of Parliament have joined the chat to defend Adetshina following a video that has made the rounds on the internet with Adetshina celebrating with her Nigerian family.

Chirwa slammed Minister of Sports, Arts and Culture, Gayton McKenzie after he made a comment about Adetshina being in the pageant.

McKenzie commented: “we truly cannot have Nigerians compete in our Miss SA competition. I wanna get all the facts before I comment but it gives funny vibes already”.

On Tuesday night, Chirwa took to X to reply to McKenzie’s comment.

“You are not “Patriotic” at all. You don’t know the South African Constitution. You don’t respect South African governance office at EXECUTIVE level.

“You don’t know South African history. You don’t know South African statistics on ANYTHING, not even your favourite subject,” she said.

“BTW ”McKenzie” is a Scottish surname by origin. The audacity of bigots is astounding.

“No self-awareness to pick up the ”vibes” on his own existence coming to being due to colonial conquest but a bag full of hogwash and vitriol for Black people who are JUST LIKE HIM,“ she commented.

Chirwa further added that McKenzie does not respect South African laws and he is just full of bigotry.

Chirwa commented that black women were always targeted and bullied, following the controversy regarding Adetshina.

“And it’s always Black women that you target and bully on this scale. Everybody else gets a pass. White men get a pass. White women get a pass. Black men get a pass… You hate Black women.

“Black women’s history matters. Our lineage matters. The children we birth, ARE OURS TOO!”
